lip balm

Description

This lip balm will make your lips feel smooth and protected. It also makes for a great cuticle treatment.

Materials

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz almond oil
  • 2 oz beeswax
  • 2 oz sheabutter
  • 12 drops vitamin e
  • essential oil (optional)
  • aloe, jojoba, other additives (optional)
  • small slice of lipstick for color (optional)

Tools:

  • 25 small containers with lids (plastic, tin, etc)
  • double boiler (or microwave safe bowl)
  • large plastic eyedropper or plastic syringe
  • spoon

Step 1

Combine the following in a microwave safe bowl or the top of a double boiler: almond oil, beeswax, shea butter.

Microwave: Zap for 3-5 minutes in small increments.

Double boiler: Add water to the bottom and heat until all wax has melted.

Step 2

Once the wax concoction has thoroughly melted, add the vitamin E and the essential oil of your choice (optional).

Stir ingredients until combined.

Add a small piece of lipstick to the mix in order to add color. (This is optional.)

Step 3

Use the large plastic eyedropper or syringe to transfer the liquid mixture to the individual containers. The liquid sets quickly so work fast. If the liquid starts to harden before it has all been transferred, keep the stove on low or microwave for a short time.

(The wax mixture can be difficult to clean off once it hardens. You might want to use items that are disposable.)

Allow the liquid to harden and set into balm form. Replace caps.

Step 4

Label the containers with a name, decoration, or list of ingredients.

The Avery 1" round labels work well for plastic containers. Avery also provides a free template to help with layout.

Yields 25-30 balms.
