Pirates of Clinton Street

Check out these dope halloween decorations around the corner from our apartment. This whole thing is so awesome it makes me wish I were trick or treating this year. Every morning on my walk to the subway I notice something new they’ve put up since I last passed by. The tombstones are new this morning; they’re hilarious.

The couple who lives here was written up in the New York Times Real Estate section last year. I could only aspire to be this cool.

Yogurt Throw Down 2006

Vanessa graciously agreed to host our first yogurt off at her apartment on Sunday. We all brought our latest creations from our new yogurt makers and compared the results. Vanessa offered a whole milk yogurt with a Fage starter. Mindy brought skim milk with a starter from her last batch of yogurt (which began at some point in a Stonyfield container). I tried my hand at a whole milk honey flavored yogurt with apples and walnuts, which I started with a mysterious Greek yogurt from Sahadi’s.
Everything tasted fatastic, especially with all the topings we brought along, including pomegranate seeds, dried cherries, almonds, and granola. Mindy also surprised with an amazing dessert made from yogurt. Her strained yogurt and brown sugar pie with a pecan crust was amazing and our heads were spinning with all the new possibilities for our yogurt.

As a side note, each of our partners, apparently competitive men, all, was very concered about who actually won. We insisted it was more of a yogurt tasting, not a competition, but truth be told, I think Vanessa won. Her yogurt was nice and creamy with a very mild taste. I have to admit mine was a bit thin and we couldn’t taste the honey as much as I had hoped.
